About Gerry Duffy, Angling Ghillie/Guide.

Gerry Duffy is a retired fisheries officer and now fishes on most days throughout the year. His local knowledge is unsurpassed with over 40 years experience of waters in the area, and he knows of "secret" hotspots which often provide highlights for his clients.

One of his specialties is fly-fishing for pike. Gerry has a deserved top reputation as an accomplished pike angler; in one outing in 2002 he produced four "twenties" in one day - at 26lbs, 24lbs, 21lbs and 20 ˝ lbs, and he has landed 23 "twenties" between January and August of that year. However his biggest accomplishment came in April 2003 when he landed a massive 33 ˝ lbs pike (pictured) on a local Co. Monaghan lake.

His other speciality is the Tench and there are several local lakes which provide fine sport for these lovely fish. Then again, if Bream or Roach are on the agenda he is still the top man. Not least of his accomplishments is good skill with the fly rod for Trout, so if you’re on holiday and fancy a change [between May and September] then Gerry’s the man.

To ensure that your fishing trip goes smoothly and above all safely, Gerry holds a certificate in Aquatic First Aid, a level two national powerboat certificate. He also holds a sports coach Certificate for good practice and child protection and a certificate of competency in radiotelephony.

Gerry Duffy has recently completed an Angling Guides Course with the National Open College Network and is now professionally qualified as an angling guide in both pike and game angling.

This course is recognised by both Failte Eireann and the National Open College Network.

The National Open College Network (NOCN) is one of the largest awarding bodies in the United Kingdom, providing qualifications accredited by the regulatory authorities, QCA (in England), ACCAC (in Wales) and the CCEA (in N Ireland). NOCN quality assures the work of its licensed Open College Networks (OCNs). Together the national network offers a local, flexible and responsive accreditation service that has national strength and nationally recognised value and quality.

Gerry is also a member of the National Angling Guides Association (NAGA).

"I have fished with Gerry Duffy on many occasions for all coarse fish as well as trout on the fly, and can honestly say that his all round knowledge usually means the difference between an average holiday and a brilliant one."
